Topping the list of benefits is the fact that the insulated over has the ability to cool, or provide cooler temperatures under the cover. Leave it to Amerimax to design a patio cover that possesses insulated panels which cool as they provide shelter.Secondly, to clear up any confusion as to what an insulated panel is; the Alumawood insulated roofed patio cover is just that, an insulated roofed patio cover. The covers panels are 3″ thick and manufacture of high-density foam.
The covers, therefore, offer an R rating much higher than that of concrete tile or torch down roofing materials you might find on a wood patio cover.

Benefits of an All-Aluminum Patio Cover
What aluminum patio covers are not, is food for termites to begin with. Lets first assume that you have no experience with aluminum patio covers until now. Traditionally, wood patio covers are the choice for most. I’m assuming this is because of wood’s popularity over the years.
Be that as it may…, times are evolving. Actually, Alumawood patio covers aren’t all that new to the patio cover market. In fact, these aluminum covers have been around for well over 35+ years. In essence, they are time tested and proven as a solid alternative to wood.
Here are a few disadvantages of wood patio covers
- Wood deteriorates and turns to dust compared to aluminum
- Patio covers built of wood require maintenance which costs money
- Termites love wood
- Special engineering is sometimes needed (costs you money)
It seems like a no-brainer from where I’m sitting. Who on this earth wants to spend money years after they’ve already invested thousands in the original construction of their wood patio cover?

Alumawood insulated roofed patio cover – not easily damaged
Unlike wood, aluminum patio covers are obviously more subjected to physical damage. Let’s face it, its aluminum. That said, Amerimax took precautions to make the vulnerable areas more protected. They do this with the use of structural foam, within the front and post covers.
Other than that and for the most part, the alumawood insulated roofed patio covers aren’t really that easy to damage. You almost have to try to dent it, unless of course, you’re a 5-year-old on a rampage armed with a tricycle.
Not the Aluminum of old
So, the most common comment I hear about the aluminum patio cover is that it’s straight out of the 70’s. Or, “It’s old, my Grandma had one”.. And is likened to mobile home carports.None of these examples could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, the new Aluminum covers really do look like real wood. When I was first introduced to the product, as a business owner only selling wood patio covers years ago, I was absolutely apprehensive. Let’s be honest, I too had the same reservations. It wasn’t until I viewed the product for the first time that I was taken back, because I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between a wood cover and the Alumawood pergola cover. The rest is history. 🙂
